The Best Coping Skill is Mindfulness

November 1, 2018

Mindfulness is being in the present. Mindfulness is being in the here and now. Being mindful of our thoughts, actions and words, takes time and practice. We aim for progress not perfection when it comes to mindfulness. We start with baby steps.

9 MINDFUL STEPS TO TAKE WHEN YOU FEEL anxious, overwhelmed, frustrated or sad:

  1. Notice your thoughts
  2. Be aware of what the trigger was
  3. Accept your feelings
  4. Remind yourself that this too will pass
  5. Breathe
  6. Focus on the here and now
  7. Be present
  8. Be in the moment
  9. Focus on the important task for the moment

Be mindful of your:

  1. thoughts — positive thoughts can help us stay present and lessen or eliminate the anxiety

2. words — encouraging words or affirmation can help boost our self esteem or confidence

3. actions — focusing on the present moment and doing one task at a time can increase productivity and prevents frustration or being overwhelmed
